First Trip
I saw CATS live for the first time on Broadway on July 7th
2000. We flew into NYC on the 7th and got to our hotel. I kept
bouncing up and down on the bed ‘cause I was so excited. We went out to eat
before the show at an Italian Restaurant. I had spaghetti. Afterwards, my mom
and I started walking to the theater. (My dad doesn’t like musicals so he
didn’t go.) We went to the souvenir shop next to the theater and bought 2 CATS
t-shirts: 1 for me and one for my friend, Rebecca. Then, we went to the theater
and waited until the doors opened. An usher showed us to our seats. (7th
row aisle.) I got into a conversation with 2 teenage girls sitting behind me.
They asked me if I knew when Mr. Mistoffelees’ song was in the musical. I told
them, ‘second act, 6th song.’ Then they said that they were
childhood friends of Jon-Erik Goldberg (Pouncival, Mistoffelees stand by.) Then
an usher came up and asked them for their tickets and they got thrown out
because they didn’t have them. The show began and it was a magical night from
‘Are you blind when you’re born?’ to ‘And that’s how you address a
cat!’ During the curtain call, Jennyanydots ran by and patted my head and
Pouncival batted at my arm. At the stage door I met Billy Johnstone (Coricopat),
Jon-Erik Goldberg (Mistoffelees), David Spanganthal (Munkustrap), and Jean
Arbeiter (Jellylorum/Griddlebone). I got a picture with Jon-Erik Goldberg.
